I'm noticing a metallic clunking sound coming from the rear of my 2023 Corolla when I reverse uphill. The noise goes away after about 15 minutes of driving. It's strange because it never occurs when I take it to the dealership. Has anyone else dealt with this issue?

Same thing happened to my 22 Corolla SE, I kept hearing a clunk from the rear when backing uphill from my driveway, especially on cold mornings. Turned out to be a loose heat shield near the exhaust that only shifted under certain angles. Dealer couldn't replicate it at first either, but once I showed them a video, they found it and tightened it up.

That metallic clunk when reversing could be from heat-related expansion or a loose component that settles as the car warms up, maybe something in the rear suspension or exhaust. Its odd it doesnt happen at the dealer, likely because it needs time or certain conditions to appear. Definitely worth mentioning to them again, maybe with a video or recording to help pinpoint it.

Realistically, there's a whole lot of things that can cause this problem and @insideMAN has a good idea. See if you can take a video of the noise and show it to the dealer. If you can afford to, leave it at the dealer overnight and have then try the same in the morning when it's cold.
