Oil and filter recomendation

I'm new to Toyota, but I'm not new to basic car maintenance and I plan to diy most of it on my 2016 corolla. My question is about the oil and filter. Should I stick with oem or go aftermarekt?

I think both OEM and good quality aftermarket options can work well. But sometimes OEM filters can be surprisingly affordable if you buy them in packs online or from a dealer that offers discounts. For aftermarket, brands like Mobil 1 or Wix are good choixces

My issue with going aftermarket, especially on filters, is quality control, some cheap ones don't seal well or filter as effectively. With OEM, you know it's built to spec for your engine.

Just picked up a Corolla myself after years of driving Hondas so I totally get the DIY mindset! For oil filters, I guess just stay away from the super cheap no name ones and you'll be fine

You're right. If you stick to reputable brands that meet the OEM specs, you'll dodge all those annoying flow or bypass problems.

Using aftermarket oil and filters for your 2016 Corolla is perfectly fine. Just make sure to stick with 0W-20 synthetic oil and choose reputable brands like Purolator, Wix, or Bosch. You only really need to go with OEM parts if your car is still under warranty or if you want that extra bit of reassurance
