Headlight weirdness on my Corolla

I drive an '07 Corolla, and recently if I try to override the auto headlights and turn them on manually they won't light up unless I open and close the glove box first. The auto headlights still work as they should, so it's just the manual switch acting up. Has anyone experienced this strange issue before, or know what's causing it?

That's a head scratcher. Could be a lose ground wire or connector near the glove box that's somehow tied to the manual headlight circuit. Have you checked for a wiring diagram or inspected for any physical damage or pinched wires in that area?

I haven't checked the wiring yet, but that makes sense, I'll take a look around the glove box area and check for any loose connections or pinched wires

Keep an eye out for anything that looks like it's been pinched or shaken lose. It's often the little things that trip you up. Fingers crossed you don't have to chase your tail too long!

It appears that your manual headlight switch is being affected by a loose connection or a grounding problem close to the glove box.Because it is on a separate circuit, the auto mode functions.A connector is most likely jostled back into position when the glove box is opened and closed.Examine the switch itself as well as the wiring and connectors surrounding the glove box.The headlight switch may need to be replaced if that doesn't work.Worth taking a quick look at before going to a shop, quite typical for older cars
